Sweeney Honored with Heritage Award from St. John of God Community Services

Haddonfield – Senate President Steve Sweeney received the Heritage Award St. John of God Community Services at the organization’s 3rd Annual Hope with Hospitality Gala.  The evening honors St. John of God Community Services’ extraordinary programming for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

“I entered into public service shortly after my daughter Lauren was born.  I wanted to make sure I could make a difference in not just her life, but also in the lives of all those with special needs in my community and for Gloucester County as a whole.  I now try my best to continue this across the state,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland).  “The people who should be receiving this award are those who work with those with special needs, they work every day to make someone else’s life better.”

Senator Sweeney was unable to attend the event but Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro, his legislative colleague, accepted the award on his behalf.

“Although the Senate President could not attend this event tonight, he would like everyone to know he will never give up working to improve the lives of individuals with special needs.  When we help those with disabilities and treat them with respect, we encourage them to reach their full potential, and in turn, they teach us to realize our full potential,” said Assemblyman Taliaferro (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland).
