Sweeney Speaks at the Realtors Day in Trenton Breakfast
Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney addressed attendees of the Realtors Day in Trenton Breakfast at the Masonic Temple today. This event was sponsored by the New Jersey Realtors, an association with approximately 55,000 members who are involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
Realtors Day in Trenton provides participants the opportunity to meet elected representatives and to network with like-minded advocates on issues that impact the real estate industry. Senator Sweeney discussed his Path to Progress bill package and its potential impact on property taxes and real estate prices.
“New Jersey is facing a fiscal crisis and the failed solution of the past has been to try and tax ourselves out of it. Property taxes have skyrocketed to the highest in the nation, making the cost of living too expensive for residents and undermining the traditional investments in homes and real estate,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “To address these issues, we have developed the Path to Progress bill package that offers long-term, sustainable solutions to make New Jersey more affordable for families, senior citizens, and businesses. Homeowners across the state have been burdened by this broken system for years, and if we are going to ensure the appeal of buying a home, raising a family and retiring in New Jersey, we have to restructure the way the state does business.”
The breakfast was also attended by the Senate Republican Leader Thomas H. Kean Jr.
“Although New Jersey is blessed with an ideal location and a highly-educated workforce, we are still struggling to keep job creators and families from moving out of state,” said Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean (R-Union/Somerset/Morris) “Home ownership has long been a cornerstone of the American dream. In order to make that dream a reality for more of our residents, we need to work together to tackle our property tax crisis and make New Jersey more affordable for everyone.”
New Jersey Realtors, formerly known as the New Jersey Association of Realtors (NJAR), is the voice for real estate in New Jersey and serves as a leading advocate for issues in the real estate industry and private property owners.
