Sweeney Statement On D-Day Anniversary
TRENTON – Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement today in honor of the 73rd anniversary of the 1944 landing at Normandy of Allied forces during World War II.
“Today is a day to pause and recognize the bravery and sacrifice of all of the troops that participated in Operation Overlord on D-Day. Facing incredible danger and with the fate of the world on their backs, the troops that stormed the beaches in France exhibited a courage that resonates today.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to the veterans who defended freedom that day, some of whom did so at the cost of their lives.
“It is thanks to that selfless commitment that democracy and our way of life continue to this very day.”
