Third District Legislators Attend 19th Annual Community Awards Banquet

West Deptford – Senate President Steve Sweeney, Deputy Speaker John J. Burzichelli and Assemblyman Adam J. Taliaferro attended the Calvary Community Development Corporation 19th Annual Community Awards Banquet, where the late Reverend Dr. Edward Dorn and others were honored.

“It was an honor to be able to attend this banquet and to witness firsthand how these recipients have helped their communities,” said Senator Sweeney.  “These citizens are model examples of what it means to go above and beyond for the greater good of society.  Each and every one of them have done so much for Salem County and I am eternally grateful.”

“Reverend Dorn served as pastor of Second Baptist Church of Pedricktown for 37 years, committing the majority of his life towards the lives of those in his community,” said Assemblyman John J. Burzichelli.  “While he is no longer with us, the legacy of his actions will withstand lifetimes and it was an amazing opportunity to honor both him and his legacy tonight.”

“Any occasion to honor our constituents for their exemplary actions is such a rewarding experience,” said Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro. “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing those around you do all that they can to improve the lives of others within their own community.”

The Calvary Community Development Corporation is a faith-based organization founded in 2000 by the late Reverend Dorn.  The awards banquet paid tribute to Reverend Dorn, in addition to other individuals for their contributions to the strength and vitality of their communities. They are: Reverend Pastor Damon Dukes, Rocklife Ministries; Charles Newton, Jr., Deputy Mayor, Carney’s Point; Roland Carter, Jr., Salem County Technical Schools; James Dickerson, Community Activist, Salem County; Morgan Robinson, Student, Thomas Jefferson University, and Tyreke Brown, Student, Sacred Heart University.
